HEIRLOOM
Stories in Brighton part I
I am responding to the selected films “Pelo Malo” by Mariana Rondón and short film “Auntie” by Lisa Harewood.

The films narrate the journey through motherhood, childhood and identity, which I can reflect on.

Titled ‘’Heirloom’’ my response is presented in a series of Polaroids.  It is narrated by stories through the eyes of the mother. Each story is illustrated by two pictures. These two pictures represent a retrospective in a short time frame which also evoke the present and an anticipation of the future.

I asked each mothers a series of questions that would help know more about their journey and get them to open up.

When I collected enough information to capture the essence of their stories, I wrote it down in a form of a letter and I tried to add a bit of storytelling and/or intrigue to it. I made sure they all end up positively because at the end, we all wish for the best no matter what will come in between.
